Searching Tips

Finding information on your topic can take time and experimentation with databases and terms.

  • Identify other disciplines interested in your topic.  Art? Music? Science? Archeology?

  • Select the important words in your topic and use them as your beginning search terms.
    women medicine medieval

  • Add related terms or synonyms to expand your results. 
    religion or buddhism or hindu or christianity

  • Use quotemarks around phrases so the words are kept together. 
    "world history" "indian ocean"

  • Look at the author's references and locate the ones pertaining to your topic.

  • Request items from other libraries.
