POLICIES:
Please present your Cougar Card to check out materials. You may request a receipt for returned items. The Library's circulation system is the point of record for all items.
You can renew your items by either calling the Circulation Desk at 773-298-3352 or logging on to the I-Share book catalog or Borrow from Other Libraries.
Books or DVDs that cost more than $200 or are very difficult to replace and are restricted to SXU faculty use only. The Library reserves the right to restrict borrowing of any item at any time. You can only check out one season of a TV at a time. The SXU Library does not loan its own materials to alumni of other universities, but these individuals can pick up materials at the SXU Library that have been delivered from another I-Share library.
The Library does NOT charge for overdue materials. But when materials are more than 28 days overdue, the Library will block your account in the Library and in the Business Office. To unblock your account, you must return the original item to the Library. If you have lost the item, you are solely responsible for replacing it. To replace a lost item, you must bring to the Library a NEW item with exactly the same ISBN . The Library will not accept used copies. Contact the Library if a lost item is out of print.
Recalls
All library materials are subject to Recall, if requested by another patron, after the ifirst 28 days.
Failure to respond to a recall notice will result in a daily fine or the revocation of library privileges or both.
Recalled materials begin incurring fines after 3 days at $1.00 a day. After 10 days, a processing fee of $10.00 and a replacement cost will be charged. Replacement cost ranges from $15.00 to $200.00. This is a nonrefundable charge.
Staff
With a valid Cougar Card, staff can borrow an unlimited number of books from the SXU Library. The borrowing period is eight weeks, and items may be renewed once. Four videos from may be borrowed from the Library for 14 days, and items may not be renewed.
Staff with a valid Cougar Card can use the Library's I-Share and interlibrary-loan service to request materials nationwide.
Alumni
With a valid Cougar Card, obtained through the Alumni Office, alumni can borrow an unlimited number of books from the SXU Library. The borrowing period is eight weeks, and items may be renewed once. Four videos from may be borrowed from the Library for 14 days, and items may not be renewed.
Alumni must contact their local public library for non-SXU books, as alumni accounts will not connect to the I-Share consortial or interlibrary loan delivery systems.
I-Share Patrons
Book lending services are available to patrons of other I-Share university libraries in accordance with the agreements that the Library has established with those institutions.
Off-campus access and delivery
Delivery locations for books and videos are found within the book catalog, and can be designated when you create your VuFind account ... or modified at the point of request. Books and videos will not be delivered to locations beyond the existing delivery locations. When electronic books and streaming videos are not available, off-site users should obtain their books and other materials through local public libraries.
