Scholarly Publishing

"No matter how good your ideas may be and regardless of the quality of your research, your work will not have the influence it deserves unless you ensure it is published in appropriate journals." (Boellstorff, 2011).

Scopus

Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, with bibliometrics tools to track, analyze and visualize research.  It contains over 22,000 titles from more than 5,000 publishers around the world, covering the fields of science, technology, medicine, social sciences, and Arts & Humanities.  Dating back to 1823 Scopus has 55 million records, 84% of these contain references dating from 1996.

Publishing in Scholarly Journals

Publishing in journals is important for sharing ideas, connecting with the scholarly community, and for hiring and tenure. The SXU Library can help you determine where to submit your article for publication. A journal's reputation and an article's visibility are at the forefront of choice when selecting where to publish. To find the impact a published article is making, citation analysis shows who is reading the article, and how many times it has been cited.

While Scopus is "the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature and quality web sources," it only includes journals from its own index, and should be used with the subject-specific databases. To find other reputable journals in your field of study, select Subject Guides from the Library home page.  Choose your subject field from the left-hand column to find specific databases in your area of study.
