Research Process

Research process: identify a topic, find background information, books, articles, and videos.  Evaluate your sources, and if you use the sources in your paper, cite your sources.

Search using keywords:

Find background information on a topic
Find books and videos
Find articles from core journals (Choose Databases by Subject, Literature Databases, OK.)
Evaluate your sources
Cite your sources.
Write your research paper.

Primary and Secondary Sources

Primary sources are documents from the time period, people, and events of the time under consideration. Primary sources can be:

  • diaries or correspondence
  • photographs
  • illustrations
  • newspaper articles (from the time period)
  • manuscripts
  • pamphlets, broadsides, or other ephemera
