Private Scholarship Opportunities

The following scholarship opportunities are just samples of what is available. To find more scholarships, try using terms like veterans, service members, and branches of the military. Then add scholarships.

Many military and veterans associations and organizations offer scholarships to eligible members.

Search the Military Scholarship Finder, National Resource Directory, and Scholarship Search as other tools for identifying opportunities.

Amvets
Scholarships are awarded to veterans/active military, their sons, daughters or grand-children.
Army Scholarship Foundation
Provides scholarships for undergraduate study to children of current and former members of the U.S. Army and to spouses of current soldiers.
Coast Guard Foundations
Offers scholarships to unmarried dependent children of enlisted men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard who met eligibility requirements.
Fleet Reserve Association Education Foundation
Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard personnel and their families are eligible for scholarships.
Marine Corps Heritage Foundation
Provides graduate students $17,000 through three fellowships to study U.S. and Marine Corps history.
Military Officers Association of America
Students (under age 24) who are children of an active-duty, reserve, or National Guard parent who died on active service or children of severely wounded (as defined as Traumatic SGLI) are eligible to apply
National Guard Eduational Foundation
Provides college scholarships to the children of National Guardsmen who have been lost in service to our nation since 9/11.
Pat Tillman Foundation
Supports military veterans committed to positive change and have leadership potential.
Scholarships for Military Families

ThanksUSA
Awards need-based college, technical and vocational school scholarships for their children and spouses.
The Joanne Holbrook Patton Military Spouse Scholarships
Funding can be used for tuition, room and board, and fees.

GI Bill -- Education Programs

GI Bill Rate Tables
Current reimbursement rates for the different GI Bill programs.
Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant.
Among requirements, your parent or guardian must have died as a result of military service in Iraq or Afghanistan after 9/11.
Post-9/11 GI Bill
An education benefit program for individuals who served on active duty after September 10, 2001.
Illinois Veteran Grant (IVG) Program
If eligible, must attend an Illinois public 2 or 4 year college.
Military Sevice. Illinois Military Assistance Commission
Describes programs and provides other helpful information.

The American Council on Education is formed by higher education institutions and other related organizations with the purpose of conducting research, advocating, and developing leadership for higher education.
