Library Rights and Responsibilities

The Library fully complies with the American Library Association Bill of Rights.

The Library collections, resources, and services are provided for the information, and enlightenment of the SXU community. Materials are not excluded because of the origin, background, or views of their creators. The Library provides materials presenting all points of view on current and historical issues, and they are not proscribed or removed because of partisan or doctrinal disapproval.

The Library will challenge censorship in fulfilling its responsibility to provide information and enlightenment. The Library will cooperate with all persons and groups concerned with protecting free expression and free access to ideas.

User Rights and Responsibilities

The Library serves as a resource to the CARLI reciprocal Chicago-area community, and strives to provide a pleasant experience for all patrons. The Library asks that all patrons respect the following guidelines to ensure a successful visit to the Library.

The Library maintains an atmosphere conducive to study. The Library staff will warn patrons who are disruptive or appear to be present without legitimate educational purposes. If the behavior persists, the Library staff may contact Public Safety, and the patron will be escorted off the premises. Saint Xavier University is concerned for the safety of all Library patrons. Parents, guardians, or responsible caregivers must directly supervise children and young adults under 18 years of age.

The Library staff will not deny access to any persons because of creed, color, age, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or disability. 

Users must comply with the campus Acceptable Use of Technology policy.
