Veterans' Resources: Books

Veterans' Resources

Keywords and Subject Headings

When looking for book and video materials, you will want to start by performing searches in our SXU Book Catalog.

You will probably start your search with keywords and then find subject headings that describe your topic.   Keywords are words YOU use to describe your topic. Subject headings are terms assigned by catalogers using a standardized vocabulary to group together documents on the same topic.

As you look at the Topics (subject headings) at the book on the right, you will notice the heading starts with a broad subject and then becomes more narrow with each dash.  If you are only interested in Women veterans - United States simply click on States and the link will search the complete phrase Women veterans - United States.

Below are examples of other subject headings related to veterans and soldiers.

Iraq War, 2003- - Psychological aspects

Borrowing from Other Libraries

When looking for book and video materials, you will want to start by performing searches in our SXU Book Catalog.

If we do not own the desired material, you may need to expand your search and request books be delivered using the drop down option at the top of the page which searches all 68 state-wide I-Share Libraries. I-Share books can be delivered to our location within a few days.

If the book you want is not located within our consortium, you can ask to Borrowing From Other Libraries ... but expect there to be a delay of a few days to two weeks for delivery of such outside books.
